Back in 2012 we were traveling to Hong Kong on a monthly basis, partially on work and leisure. While the traveling did take a heavy toll on our pockets, the experience in this buzzing city was memorable and very rich. Shanah came along with us on each trip and while Isaiah was busy donning his working gear, the little girl and I trooped around town in our carrier.
We are no strangers to the MTR and cha chang tengs in HK. Though i have to admit that the lunch crowds do scare me and the lack of nursing rooms leaves much to be desired in this area. We would avoid the lunch crowds (and grumpy overworked waiters) and make trips back to the hotel for naps and feeds. Besides these though, we learned that 3pm was a great time to have egg tarts at Honolulu cafe (less crowd less haste) and that the nooks and crannies of this metropolitan city often leaves us pleasantly surprised.
One weekend, the Yans brought us and a few others along to Stanley Beach for a leisurely walk. Directions here are complicated (something involving walking to an interchange in central, buses and transfer) and i believe you can easily find better instructions on google maps :) But it's definately worth the hassle. The roads are windy and we watched on in slight fear as a fellow lady passenger retched on the way down. Tip to brave souls: face front, look ahead and prepare a plastic bag.
Stanley Beach on a weekend is crowded with tourists, families and Hong Kongers in search for a respite from the metropolitan city. There a splattering of touristy shops (prices are not the best but not that steep) and a mishmash of western and eastern delicacies. For children, there's a playground and the area is often visited by the Mobile Softee. It's well worth a trip to escape from all the shopping and eating madness!
Alright, enough ramblings. I'll let the pictures take over.

Flying solo plus one
I kid you not, flying alone with a toddler isn't exactly for the
faint hearted. Given a choice, i would always fly with the Daddy so that
there's always someone to turn to for a quick toilet break or a mini
me-time. If first class isn't an option, consider a flight with full
economy services and more leg space for the little one to explore. The
major airlines usually reserve the first row seats for passengers with
infants (classified to be under 2 years). This allows for the bassinet
to be in place and much leg space to wander (for both toddler and
parent). Full economy flights also provide meals and toys for the little
ones, so that thankfully, does distract them for quite abit of time.
We have been really blessed to be able to travel to Hong Kong quite a bit this year. Most flights were taken with the Daddy but after paying exorbitant prices for a short 4-hour flight, I decided to heck it and go for the budget option which was slightly more than half price. Brave, i know.
So here's what worked for me when flying with my little one.
1) Choose a flight where your child will spend the most time asleep.
The flight there was a breeze. The front row seats for Jetstar Asia were reserved for passengers who paid more, but they reserved the second row for passengers traveling with infants. Good enough for me! Because we chose a super early flight (6.30am), Shanah slept through most of the flight, waking only to nurse. Success!
2) Bring along a few of your child's favourite snacks
The flight back was a challenge - it was right smack in the afternoon and Shanah managed a 1.5 hour nap. When she woke and fussed, i took out some grapes (her favorite then), which kept her occupied for quite a bit. When she grew restless from sitting on my lap, I placed her on the minute space between my seat and the seat in front while she picked on more grapes. When the grapes lost their attraction, i began rummaging for crackers, which quickly lost their powers due to the law of diminishing marginal returns.
3) Prepare a flight bag of activities (books, toys, etc)
Shanah gets a new book each time we fly because a new book always appeal to her for the longest time. Sometimes I buy them ahead and keep them for the flight while other times i simply bring along an old favourite that she hasn't read for awhile.
We also downloaded some kids app on the iPad as a last resort. I like the idea of the iPad as a special treat so that we can use it to bribe and cajole a screaming baby. Unfortunately when this baby wants to scream, she simply screams.
4) Always have the ultimate bribe prepared
The ultimate plane survival was... Ben & Jerry's ice cream! Thank you Jetstar for carrying that!! I don't know any toddler who can resist ice-cream, especially when allowed to feed themselves with spoon, hands, fingers and toes. :) I didn't hadve the hands or energy to capture good photos, so here's one with a really happy girl and her ice cream.
5) When all fails, grit your teeth and give the little one loads of cuddles and kisses
It's tough being little and kept in a confined space :)
Well, there are actually a bunch of other practical stuff that i always carry along - like my usual baby bag, TONNES of wet & dry tissue, water, gummies (in case the ears get blocked due to air pressure) and a toy or two. I heard of some people who feed their babies cough medication to get them to sleep - though i have my reservations about this.
If you are looking for more advice, hop over here - not the best, but pretty sound!
P.s. If you are flying for the first time, one of the main concern would be your baby handling the change in air pressure during ascend and descent. Allowing them to suckle or drink fluids will help them handle it better.

We are back from Disneyland!
And we are back from Hong Kong, our first ever trip as a family of 3! That is if you don't count trips with Shanah in my tummy.
It's been an explosive and exciting trip. But mostly a very experiential and memorable journey to discover the joys of sharing the big world out there with our little girl and learning alittle bit more about the spouse. And i can't get over being able to spend so many days with the husband without him going to work. I believe our little girl was rather thrilled to have dada around all day! Less thrilled about being unable to crawl and explore on her own since we were constantly on the go.
More pictures coming soon I hope! Meanwhile the laundry basket is choked full of clothes and we gotta do something about it before it explodes or we run out of clothes to wear.

I'm not very sure why i'm up
It's 1.30am in the morning and i'm wide eyed. I'm pretty sure if i were to lie down i would sleep in five minutes tops. But it just seem so mundane to sleep when i have a night to myself where all the chores are done for once. Plus it makes sense to wait for the baby to wake for her feed rather than scramble about in my sleepy state.
Laundry.. checked
Ironing.. checked
Cleaning... checked
So here am i, after exploring all the usual culprits and placing a huge huge huge shopping restraining order on myself, i've decided to explore a old rather neglected hobby. I've been really looking forward to fiddling with this new program.
I'm not the most efficient when it comes to sharing photos on facebook. In fact, we uploaded our wedding pictures about 1.5 years after our wedding. Not a good idea when i was 38 weeks preggies and proud to be looking quite like an elephant.
I'm sensing that my tired brain is going into ramble mode soon. So before that happens, here are some pictures of our not-so-recent trip to Europe end of last year. I'll prolly be sharing more if i can recall the places we visit. Shanah was about 10 weeks-ish then, and we initially planned a really loong exciting itinerary (London-Paris-Rome-Florence-Venice) before cutting the entire trip down to London and Paris cos I couldn't take anything but Asian cuisine. The thought of anything western (except that western food store at the kopitiam) makes me nauseous. I know, of all places, in the culinary heaven of France. Throughout our whole trip, i was thinking about the promise a friend made, that he would pick us from the airport and bring us for supper at Bedok Simpang. I was like mee goreng mee goreng the entire trip. All i can say, poor hubby :) Oh, but at least i was still a nutter for the sweet stuff!

Eve of Christmas Eve!

We are sorry for the late of updates. A tad slight embarrassed maybe because it has been an event-filled year end thus far. Loads of love and joy to share! More updates will come we hope.
Till then, have a merry and blessed eve of Christmas eve! :) Be Jolly, be Merry, but dun forget the REAL reason for Christmas. And nope, it's not the turkey, neither is it the ribs. It's the One who was sent for us some 2 thousand years ago. The One who loves us so much.

hello from NZ! :)
Hello from Day 4 in NZ. It was a bumpy ride to the land down under, not a good way to endure a 2hr + 10hr ride. Nevertheless, thank God we got here safe and sound. :)
I'm missing home and i cant wait to get back in a few days. Well, more like a week's time. I miss my bed and most of all i miss my family. But at least i'm getting many hours of sleep here. I'm 5 hours ahead peeps, and hence we get to see the gorgeous sunrise in the gorgeous weather. Loads of fresh air too. Alrighty, i'm heading off to bed. Here's some random pics which im too lazy to name :)

one of those drowsy days
Today's one of those drowsy days where all you can think about are places you've been to and the upcoming holidays. I'm dreaming of lush greenery, gorgeous country side, beautiful cathedrals, creme brulee, cheesecake, coffee and long flights.
Just enough to keep me going and marking :)
Have a blessed week guys.

we are home!!
... and it feels slightly odd, n
ostalgic, whimsical and dull to be back (what an odd combination of feelings i know). What grapples me is the need for work, ahha! But thank God for opportunities to travel, to get ourselves out of the country time and time again for getaways. Its really amazing how much about work you can forget in a span of 2 week :P
Can't wait to get our feet off the ground and on the plane again. :)

You will never want to miss this inflight safety video
I grabbed this off Liwen's facebook - who grabbed it off someone else - who grabbed it off Thomson Airways, a UK based airline.
So smart - everybody will totally listen to the in-flight safety video for once! :)
Marilyn's back today. Yay!! :)

Top 13 pictures from BUFFALO :)
I miss Buffalo. In my fantasy world (which usually comes true sometimes; i know, oxymoron), i get to spend a couple of months just nuaing with Na in the States. Just living there, prolly to do a research paper or something. Or just you know, enjoying the weather and living life slowly. Cooking together, grocery shopping, etc etc.
People would say that, married liao cannot do this kind of thing.. WHO SAY ONE?!? In fact, we need to leave life to the fullest. i hate to think that i need to fit into some kind of mould. I prefer customizing my life, so that i can glorify God, my husband-to-be and my family :) And i definately want to keep in contact with my precious babes...
Anyhow, we are leaving for KL tonight with a bunch of others. Just a short trip over the weekends. When we started planning, i was so excited i couldn't wait for the weekends to come. Now, i am dreading the fact that i will dread going back to school on Monday. Taking a plane though, and i am SUPER EXCITED BOUT THAT!!! Will update with more pictures.
Meanwhile, we are almost 80% to settling our photographers. Might even be taking an overseas shoot further than we think. Please God, if its within Yr will, make it happen :) If not then forget it! :)
Oh yeah, we are STILL looking for a church. ANY LOBANGS?!?!!?
